Sleepy Baby

Little Peytin has been a stubborn boy, not wanting to sleep in a bassinet or crib but insisting on being held or laying with mom.  I am happy to report he has graduated to sleeping for more than 30 minutes or an hour in his bassinet!!!  He slept for 4 hours last night!  The social worker at the Spina Bifida clinic was concerned about me holding him all the time.  I knew it wasn't a good habit to get into and really tried to get him to sleep in his bassinet but he refused.  I couldn't stand letting him cry which she understood because when you have a child with a special need you want to respond as soon as they cry wondering and worrying if something is really wrong.  Luckily since yesterday, Peytin has not started screaming upon being put down to sleep so mama can sleep and not be so exhausted.

While I am thrilled he is sleeping better, I was a little worried yesterday.  He slept for over 3 hours in the afternoon and then I picked hi up while he was squirming to feed him.  He did eat but never fully woke up and he had a glazed look in his eyes.  He then just went right back to sleep for another 3 hours.  It is so hard to distinguish between warning signs that something is going wrong with his head and normal baby things.  They tell us to watch him for abnormal sleepiness, lathargy, throwing up (how can you tell between spitting up and throwing up and how much is too much) and fussiness.  Most of those things are normal baby things so when he does anything a little different than normal I start asking myself if I should call the neurosurgeon ASAP.  His sleepiness worried me but Landin suggested he could just actually be feeling better now and be sleeping like a normal baby.  Peytin really didn't sleep very well before but his soft spots that build up with fluid have gone down in their swelling so maybe he finally does feel better.  Yay for my husband's positivity!  I love my little family!
